The World of MeticuLab

MeticuLab was established to explore the boundless possibilities of metal and stone, seamlessly fusing artistic beauty with practical functionality. Our studio brings together a collective of artisans deeply passionate about their craft. Dedicated to creating every lighting fixture entirely by hand, they bring these unique, handcrafted masterpieces to every corner of the globe.

Made with Care

"I'm not saying mass-produced things have no soul. Take the first iPhone, for example—I thought it was a work of art, despite being mass-produced. But that same rule just doesn't apply to decorative lighting. What's left on a lamp is the touch of the artisan, a kind of warmth and character you just can't get from mass production.

The premise of mass production is profit. It requires calculating viable profit margins, hitting specific sales volumes, and strictly controlling costs, which means many ideas simply cannot be realized. In contrast, the pieces we craft are rarely constrained by cost. We want to infuse our creations with all sorts of novel and beautiful ideas, crafting works that can be preserved for half a century or a full century, eventually becoming true vintage lighting. We don't expect these pieces to sell in massive quantities or become huge commercial hits; they only need to be discovered by a small group of people who can truly appreciate them. Over time, the materials we use—such as brass, wrought iron, and marble—will all naturally age and develop their own unique character and patina."

The Path

  • In 2016, Kirk approached Pierre to collaborate, and together they founded MeticuLab. At the time, Pierre had spent 9 years working in a wrought-iron studio and possessed extensive experience in iron forging, while Kirk was a designer. The duo decided to create the kind of artistic lighting that was missing from the market. Initially, they focused on metal fixtures crafted primarily from brass and wrought iron. Later, artistic pieces incorporating rare materials such as parchment, shagreen (stingray leather), and alabaster were introduced one after another.
  • In 2018, they expanded their material repertoire, releasing a solid cherry wood series that introduced their retro-futuristic aesthetic to the world.
  • In 2020, the brand shifted its business focus from commercial contract projects to direct online sales, catering specifically to interior designers and individual clients.
  • In 2023, the studio made a major equipment investment, acquiring a laser tube cutting machine, a 3-axis CNC machining center, and other advanced machinery to significantly enhance both production speed and precision.
